About Bunnik

A family business in timber since 1900, run with pride and enthusiasm by the fourth and fifth generation.

1900

The beginning

Carpenter Jan Bunnik settles in Amersfoort with his wife and three children. That same year he starts his own workshop.

1906

Stoomtimmerfabriek Nellie

On the Utrechtseweg, Jan Bunnik builds his own joinery factory. Within a year, the Nellie steam joinery factory is up and running.

To the Soesterweg

A sawmill, a timber business and a joinery factory are set up on the new industrial estate. In 1930, two sheds on the Nijverheidsweg follow.

The second generation

Jan Bunnik retires and his sons continue the business as J. Bunnik & Zonen. The war hits the family hard: in 1944 his son Jacob dies, and shortly afterwards the founder.

Horse and cart

After the war comes the reconstruction, with a branch of its own in Nijmegen. The business magazine Succes calls the logo, a horse and cart, one of the best in the Netherlands.

Fifty years

Bunnik celebrates its 50th anniversary. The joinery factory supplies interiors, such as the refurbishment of the synagogue in Amersfoort.

1970–1990

Planing and contract work

The joinery factory closes and the machining work grows, with a four-sided planer. From 1984, the fourth generation, Vincent Bunnik, expands the sawing, planing and drying.

1996–2000

Nijkerk and a hundred years

In 1997, the first production line of its kind in the Netherlands opens in Nijkerk. In 2000, Bunnik celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Leaving Nijkerk

Shortly after the centenary, government plans make the contract sawing, planing and drying in Nijkerk impossible. The work there stops and the property is sold.

The fifth generation

Buster Bunnik, the fifth generation, joins the company. In 2008 a timber business in special, naturally durable species starts in Leusden. From there, we also help private customers on a small scale.

Houtkoperij-vesterij Bunnik

Jeen Bunnik, also of the fifth generation, starts Houtkoperij-vesterij Bunnik. It buys felled logs and standing timber at home and abroad, and supplies logs to sawmills and industry.

Choosing the professional

During the coronavirus years, many private customers ask for small quantities of timber. The fourth and fifth generation choose the professional: Bunnik continues with specialised woodworking.

Today

Bunnik Hout

Bunnik Hout still stands out thanks to its own machining capabilities, specialising in cladding, industrial custom work and timber for public spaces, such as street furniture.
